Actually yesterday morning we were supposed to go walk/jog/run kind of stuff but I preferred my bed more. So today a repeat occured again. I didn't go for service today cos my stomach was having a war. However it has gradually ceased. OH GOSH, I'm having a dilemma as to whether I should continue with cycling, forking out my own money for rental, or I should just go walk/jog/run, which is absolutely free of charge. I'm very comfortable with cycling but I guess it burns less than walk/jog/run. Oh well, dilemmas always occur in lives. I'll like to keep this short though since all my other posts are rather unsightly and uninvitingly lengthening. Oh, there's a Christmas event by FCBC called 'My Hope, Singapore' held at TCT from 1pm to 5pm. It's a party sort of thing and all are welcome, just have to let me know though. Song Tat seems to be going so...haha...I doubt if I extend the invitation to Jing Wen, she'll not shun away from it. Well, and tomorrow I don't know how I'm going to extend my imaginary handshake to Jia En and wish her...

Saturday, November 29, 2008 . 12:03 AM

Today was rather a tiring yet fun-filled day. Although I had to wake up early for tuition, it was compensated with sumptuous chicken wings and of course, cycling! After tuition, I headed down to meet Justin and then went cycling. Initially we had decided on heading for Changi and back. However, since I suggested the route of cycling to the Esplanade, we then concluded and mightly cycled towards the Esplanade. Worries began unfolding in my mind when we reached the end of Fort Road. I was unsure if there would be a path that would take us to the Esplanade. Haha...guess what, there actually is. It's kind of a overhead bridge that has many turns and chain-railings that prevent you from cycling on it but we rejected the idea of pushing our bikes and cycled through it. Then it was a parallel road to the ECP that leads straight to the Esplanade, or that's what I initially thought. Unwittingly, the road was a dead end and we had to cycle on dirt which was super-muddy and our bikes, footwear and feet were all muddy. So we turned back, and went to those toilet stops to wash ourselves. Dwang! It was so troublesome. We then went on to Bedok Jetty and then back to Big Splash. Justin bolded the idea of going again further into the dirt path we had earlier encountered and so since we had the time, we decided on that. We went inner, braved through the tall grasses and leaves and this time we definitely remembered to avoid the muddy patches as much as possible. Well, we couldn't go too far in as the sun was descending and it was quite deserted. So we turned back and returned the bikes. Then we had some kind of steamboat buffet similar to Seoul Garden just that the quality was mediocre. Wow, we ate from let's say 7.30pm till 9.45pm. I guess the people there were not as happy cos we were there for so long! So yeah...it was like the first time I'd cycled in weeks! Overjoyed? Extensively overjoyed! To account for the weight gain from the food, tomorrow which is today at about 7am, we'll jog or run and of course walk, from here to Changi Village. It sounds impossible to me so I'm praying that it'll be possible. And on the final note, the imposter who keyed the same name as me on my tagboard was using a school computer. I'm one step closer to gathering evidence against him. Luckily, one thing I remember that is Jia En's birthday's on Monday...I just hope I'd remember to wish. It's just what friends do and has got nothing to do with like or love kind of stuff. In fact, there isn't any relation between the duo, so cut crapping... Oh, and PLEASE TAG!

Wednesday, November 26, 2008 . 11:40 PM

Please take note that the things on the tag column and the stuff written by someone named
'annoymous' on Jia En's blog are not by me.

Firstly, since Mr Seah wants to be recognised for exposing my birthday date, I shall grant his desire. Here it goes: Without the extraordinary help of Mr Seah Wei Siong Glenn, I wouldn't have had any birthday wishes from anyone in school. Therefore, I would like to extend a special hand to thank him sincerely for letting my birthday date be known in exchange for birthday wishes from people. I guess he's going to 'skin' me alive for doing this...it's a bit overboard...hahaha. Well Monday I went with my cell group and people to Planet Crush, we had lan games, namely Dota (I have totally no inkling on how to play this so i skipped it), Counter Strike Strike (I enjoy this very much) and so on and so forth. They were hosting a Dota competition at 11.30am so we switched to the console room where we engaged in Xbox 360 Live, PS3 and Wii. One thing is certain, we had a great time. After which the rest went to McDonalds in the vicinity which i absolutely dreaded. Since I had not been exercising, why should I put on more unnecessary weight? Anyway someone backed me up as such, 4 of us including my cell leader went to the hawker centre nearby. I mean hawker food is still healthier than fast food right? Besides, wasn't fast food was created in order to enable someone to have a munch quickly whether dining in or on the go? Well, at least I didn't feel guilty. After eating our fill, we went to my cell leader's house for the first time. It was quite nicely refurbished as it was a new house and we had a game of Risk. It's a tough strategy board game for which I was the first to be kicked out (I can only blame the cards for this). I stayed a while longer till 5.30pm or so, since I ended the game early, my cell leader tried to teach me how to play the guitar but it only lasted a few minutes. After which we headed for the MRT and was on my way home. Now I'm still struck down by cough and flu but I guess it should be clearing. This Friday there's a high chance that I'll be frequenting East Coast Park and my two very useful legs (there's sufficient hints given for the activity that is planned on this very day). Gee...can't someone tag my blog? I've been like tagging Jia En and Song Tat's blog until even their blog has livened up so much although they don't update that often. Grrr....I also am convinced that only a handful, I think way less than that, only skimp through my posts everytime. Bingo, now I know why some people don't update their blogs regularly...hahaha...I mean like is there any point in updating when people just take a quick glance at it...? Haiz, well, there's nothing much we can do. But not to worry, I'll tag and tag others...haha...ha...!

Sunday, November 23, 2008 . 1:37 AM

I don't know what's happening to me. As from Scream, High School Musical 3 soundtrack,
'I don't know where to go
 What's the right team
 I want my own thing
 I want my own thing
 I can't choose, so confused
 What's it all mean
 I want my own dream
 So bad I'm gonna scream
 Oh!
 Aaughhhhhh!'
What can you gather from this lyrics? How did Troy feel in the scene? That's probably what's happening to me. The cause...haha...pretty much similiar to this:
'Yeah the clock's running down
  Hear the crowd gettin' loud
  I'm consumed by the sound
Is it her, is it love
Can the music ever be enough
Gotta work it out, you can work it out
You can do it, you can do it'
So...up to you to go figure out...can't reveal much about this kind of stuff...haha...
Oh ya, Jia En's birthday's nearing...gotta remember to wish her 'cos she wished me. I really felt kinda' weird at that moment when she wished me though...I felt rather surprised cos I wasn't expecting someone to wish me (more so a girl) and I didn't announce my birthday to anyone. Seemingly it's just weird. However, I'm not spreading the wrong message here. It's just that I personally feel that it is only polite and sincere to wish someone on their birthday when they had wished you on your birthday. Isn't that how mutual friendship is supposed to be?

Saturday, November 22, 2008 . 2:14 AM

I feel that the sore in my throat has ceased and has since cleared. However the flu in my nose is still reluctant to disappear. Haha...finally I found a photo which I think I smiled best or rather I smiled well. Go view Song Tat's blog (it's on the 20 November 2008 post, the photos on which we made the friendship thingy.) Indeed, that startled and surprised me that I could produce such a smile...haha...it's very surprising when I first saw it. Well actually I didn't think that such a photo would arise 'cos I didn't expect one to occur. The weird thing though, is that everytime I thought I was smiling whenever I take a photo, I'm still frowning or something similiar to that. Why? The cause is still unknown. Andrew kept on 'complimenting' that my eyes are too small, maybe if I smile more, it will be even smaller. And the light decorations in Orchard Road are on display! Just about three and a half hours ago, we took a bus ride down to Orchard Road and went one round back home. That's to break the monotony of me dulling at home. This coming Monday will be our cell outing which I think is the first in history and I hope it won't be the last. I mean, we really lack of bonding among us or rather it just isn't enough bond yet. So I hope that through such activities (wanted to use 'stuff' but Mrs Jay said that it was too casual and too generalised a word to use), we would be able to get closer to one another. I think the Mega Meals at Burger King and MacDonald's are crazy. They're like attempting to make Singaporeans Mega-sized. Just imagine the amount of fat and sodium used to make the burger alone and the entire tower of patties puffing down your osephegus (sp.?) is enough to prevent me at all costs from purchasing it. I mean, what's the point of spending money to make you obese? And afterwards you'll be spending more money exercising. And if you think that the burger in it has veggie that is supposed to be healthy, think again. The veggie portion isn't enough to compensate for the amount of patties, seasoning and dressing added. In the end, it's as if the veggie is of no use. With that, I'd recommend Subway. It's much healthier compared to the other fast-food companies. That's my opinion and it's soon becoming a fact. And one more thing, I feel that my life (it may include other guys' lives as well), is somewhat coincidental to the song 'Scream' sung by Zac Efron in High School Musical 3. To have a better understanding, view the lyrics, observe the lyrics and think through about what it is trying to say. Songs aren't just written for us to have fun, joy and laugher (special thanks to Andrew for introducing me to these three words simultaneously). There's a whole lot of meaning behind and backing the structure of the song. No wonder the music industry's booming. Well, the time here is 2.44a.m. and I guess I should be in bed two and a half hours ago. Therefore, good night, or in another sense. Good morning starshine, the Earth says hello!

Thursday, November 20, 2008 . 9:37 PM

Oh man, I'm down with flu and sore throat. I've been wheezy throughout yesterday and today. My nose had been leaking badly but the leak has since ceased. It's like everytime I sneeze, my throat jolts and electrifies my whole neck segment and I can assure you, that isn't a nice feeling to endure. And now, thanks to the China trip...I've been on alert to improve smiling. It feels weird though. The ironic thing is now is that I can hear better on my right ear than my left ear due to my blocked nose. This causes unequal pressure in one ear than another which affects my hearing. This is temporary though. Once I get better, I'm certain that I'll be cycling. And oh, A-Math's Trigonometry isn't that tough as some people claim it is, although you need to memorise trigonometry formulas. But overall it's pretty straightforward and simple once you grasp the concept. Or that's what I gather so far. Okay, that's all for now, I shall keep this post short and sweet.

Tuesday, November 18, 2008 . 12:38 AM

genuinely need to go cycling. Although my weight stays neutral, I can sense my spare tire mounting. I guess if I cycle, this time it will be from here to Changi and then most probably persist till Pasir Ris. This rather, is to account for the number of days (it's been more than a month) that I've not gone cycling and for consuming the food intake over this period of time. Actually I could have gone cycling a long time ago, it's just that I refuse to rent from the shop I used to frequent. They got me so pissed off with them that that was the last time I'd give them business. However I am not too sure with the routine and procedure from renting the bikes from the adjacent store. Hence the delay. Oh well, since I know I need to cycle, then nothing shall stop me from exercising! Anyway, I feel like getting more blazers, nevertheless the money issue initiates. Not to worry, I'll save up. I've been eyeing Topman, their website displays stunningly attractive slim-fit blazers. For the cost...I'm stumped. And I've got absolutely no idea if the shops in Singapore sells them. But one thing's for sure, I'm going to get more clothes by the end of this year! Seriously, I'm hoping that Song Tat and the rest would plan something again which I can participate in. Probably catch a movie. But if they're considering WildWildWet, I'm baffled. I can swim well, it's just that there are other worries that escort it (I shan't say it :D). Ah well, it doesn't make much of a difference cos no one ever reads my posts. I sense it eminently, we shall see.

Let me first enlighten you that this is going to be rather elongated but please spend time to read it although the first section may lose your interest. Please. So far, today, I personally feel that it was one of the best sermons that Pastor Lawrence Khong gave. The topic was The Call To Excellence: Be Shining Stars. He preached about being excellent in everything we do for God. Which is also to say, we cannot just be ordinary, we need to be extraordinary in whatever we do and we do it not for ourselves. It's a great thing because as we all apprehend, most of us are just doing things with the " 'suka-suka' way/a little bit of effort is enough/pass can already/this guy kay-kiang work so hard for what" kind of attitude. First and foremost, how far do you think we can achieve and progress with this kind of mindset? I deduce that this generation must break the status quo of having an average and mediocre tendency whenever we do something. Yes, mediocre's the word to use here. There are three steps, which Pastor Khong cited, that will enable us to take a step closer to attaining excellence. Number one, we strive to be excellent in all things that we do whether we like it or not, we do our outmost best that we can perform and make it Delighting The Lord. Here are several verses that accompany it - >Psalm 8:1,9 >Psalm 148:13 > Psalm 150:2 >Matthew 5:48 >1 Corinthians 10:31 >Ephesians 6:5-7. Secondly, we need to add in Details. Details, no matter how minor and minute it may be, it does make a huge difference to the entire outcome. Lastly, Diligence. I guess this is getting too lengthy as such I shan't elaborate on this. Verses under this - >Proverbs 12:24 >Philippians 2:12-15 >Proverbs 13:4 >2 Peter 1:10. Though we cannot totally be perfect, but given that we put in the effort and sweat to produce excellence or somewhat close to that, it is a good achievement and someone will definitely take notice of that. After service, Andrew and I went to PP. He hunted for his PSP games for which after I went to FOX to purchase a shirt...rather cool one...and quite cheap in some sense too...hah...you might catch me wearing it to church one Sunday. You'll never know! Actually I'm looking forward to December, where I'll be able to get more clothes from a shop that starts with B (I apologise as I choose not to say the brand...hahah...:D). I don't know why I'm beginning to be like a girl cos girls do tend to go shopping for clothes and so on and so forth, don't they? Pardon me for the lengthy updated post...:D.

Here's one of the many short poems that I've written..hope you enjoy..!
Time
Time is important
It can never be forgotten
Time cannot be wasted
Although this is not the method

Time will run
When things are fast
Time's stopping
When things are uninteresting

Time depends on how you use
It could be your Monday blues
Today may be fast
At least it's not the last

Tomorrow's time may be slow
But this is not a blow
Everyday's time
The control's mine

Day and night time is right
This is not a fright
Time don't wait for you and me
Let's go before we cannot see

We shouldn't waste time
Make full use of it this lifetime
Because when it's gone
Don't bother to mourn
I guess this isn't so perfect yet..but there's many more and stories that I've written myself..hope opinions beginning raining in my tagboard..!:D

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3 - Right Here, Right Now (Zac Efron & Vanessa Hudgens)
Can you imagine, what would happen
if we could have any dream.
I'd wish this moment, was ours to own it
and that it would never leave.
Then I would thank that star,
that made our wish come true (come true)
Oh, yeah
Cause he knows that where you are, is where I should be too.
Right Here, Right Now
I’m looking at you, and my heart loves the view
Cause you mean everything
Right Here, I promise you somehow
That tomorrow can wait, some other day to be (to be)
But right now there's you and me.

It feels like forever, what could be better?
We've already proved it was.
That two thousand words, twenty three hours, have blended the universe.
Its gonna be, everything (everything)
in our whole world changed
(it starts changing)
and do know that when we are, (when we are)
our memory's the same
oh no,oh no

Right Here, Right Now (right now)
Im looking at you,and my heart loves the view
Cause you mean everything (everything)
Right Here, I promise you somehow (somehow were gonna)
That tomorrow can wait, some other day to be (to be)
But right now there's you and me.
Oh we know its coming (coming)
Oh its coming fast
Its always you and me, oh yeah
So lets make this second last
make it last.

Right here,

Ooohh Right now.

Yeah I’m looking at you,

And my heart loves the view

’Cause you mean everything

Right Here, I promise you somehow.
That tomorrow can wait, some other day to be (to be)
But right now there's you and me
You and me
you and me
Ohh You and me
But right now there's you and me

Today was awesome man. Nick Vujicic was at our service today and he did share many things about how God can change us and indeed is a true star that shines outstandingly for God. Let me give 3 things he shared. F.A.I.T.H = Full Assurance In The Heart. Another one would be F.E.A.R (needless to say,its fear and this applies very much to us in our daily lives. I guess i'm going to remember this for a long time cos i'm in some sense fearful. Hey, i mean who isn't?) = False Evidence Appearing Real. The best part however is this - when God asks you to GO even though you are DISABLED (not the literal meaning of disabled or physically disabled in the sense), join the two words bolded together and wholla, you get GOD-IS-ABLED! You see, it says in the Bible - and we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.(Romans 8:28). Oh, and today, i think i'm going to be serving in GKidz as a leader there with Andrew. So well, i don't know how it's going to be but it's good training there. And our cell would be going to learn guitar from one of Uncle Werner's cell brothers which is something i'm going to be looking forward to. Well, it's a good skill to learn as well so next time i guess we'll be leading worship for our cell alternatively. And of course, ushering! Ushering was like one of the funnest thing we've done as a cell. One last quote - When You Do Your Best, God Will Do The Rest!

JOHN 3:16

I don't understand it, but In the city of Chicago, one cold, dark night, a blizzard was setting in. A little boy was selling newspapers on the corner; the people were in and out of the cold.

The little boy was so cold that he wasn't trying to sell many papers. He walked up to a policeman and said, "Mister, you wouldn't happen to know where a poor boy could find a warm place to sleep tonight would you? You see, I sleep in a box up around the corner there and down the alley and it's awful cold in there, of a night. Sure would be nice to have a warm place to stay."

The policeman looked down at the little boy and said, "You go down the street to that big white house and you knock on the door. When they come out the door you just say John 3:16 and they will let you in."

Then he did; he walked up the steps to the door, and knocked on the door and a lady answered. He looked up and said, "John 3:16." The lady said "Come on in, Son." She took him in and she sat him down in a split bottom rocker in front of a great big old fireplace and she went off.

He sat there for awhile, and thought to himself "John 3:16. I don't understand it, but it sure makes a cold boy warm." Later she came back and asked him "Are you hungry?" He said, "Well, just a little. I haven't eaten in a couple of days and I guess I could stand a little bit of food." The lady took him in the kitchen and sat him down to a table full of wonderful food. He ate and ate until he couldn't eat anymore. Then he thought to himself "John 3:16 ... Boy, I sure don't understand it, but it sure makes a hungry boy full."

She took him upstairs to a bathroom to a huge bathtub filled with warm water and he sat there and soaked for awhile. As he soaked, he thought to himself, "John 3:16 ... I sure don't understand it, but it sure makes a dirty boy clean. You know, I've not had a bath, a real bath, in my whole life. The only bath I ever had was when I stood in front of that big old fire hydrant as they flushed it out."

The lady came in and got him, and took him to a room and tucked him into a big old feather bed and pulled the covers up around his neck and kissed him goodnight and turned out the lights. As he laid in the darkness and looked out the window at the snow coming down on that cold night he thought to himself, "John 3:16 ... I don't understand it, but it sure makes a tired boy rested."

The next morning she came back up and took him down again to that same big table full of food. After he ate she took him back to that same big old split bottom rocker in front of the fire place. She took a big old Bible and sat down in front of him and she looked up at and she asked, "Do you understand John 3:16?" He said, "No, Ma'am, I don't. The first time I ever heard it was last night when the policeman told me to use it." She opened the Bible to John 3:16, and she began to explain to him about Jesus. Right there in front of that big old fireplace he gave his heart and life to Jesus.

He sat there and thought, "John 3:16. I don't understand it, but it sure makes a lost boy feel safe."

You know, I have to confess I don't understand it either, how God would be willing to send His Son to die for me, and how Jesus would agree to do such a thing. I don't understand it either, but it sure does make life worth living.

Author Unknown

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[a] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

17. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

18. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

Thank you Jesus for coming...

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3 - Scream (Zac Efron)
The day your door is closed
The echoes fill your soul
It won't say which way to go
Just trust your heart

To find what you're here for
Open another door
But I'm not sure anymore
It's just so hard

Voices in my head
Tell me they know best
Gotto keep me on the edge
They're pushin', pushin', they're pushin'

I know they've got a plan
With the balls in my hands
This time it's man to man
I'm droppin', fightin' inside of (oh, that's upside down)
I'm spinnin' faster
What do I do now?
Without you

I don't know where to go
What's the right team?
I want my own thing
So bad I'm gonna scream!

I can't choose
So confused
What's it all mean?
I want my own dream
So bad I'm gonna scream!

I'm kicking down the walls
I gotta make them fall
Just break through them all
I'm pushin', crushin', upon a freight

To find myself
Me and no one else
Which way? I can't tell
I'm searchin', searchin', can't find a (no, man, I should turn)
I should to right or left is
It's like nothing works
Without you

I don't know where to go
What's the right team?
I want my own thing
So bad I'm gonna scream!

I can't choose
So confused
What's it all mean?
I want my own dream
So bad I'm gonna scream!

Yeah
The clock's running down
Hear the crowd gettin' loud
I'm consumed by the sound
Is it her?
Is it love?
Can the music ever be enough?
Got to work it out
Got to work it out
You can do it
You can do it!

I don't know where to go
What's the right team?
I want my own thing
So bad I'm gonna scream!

I can't choose
So confused
What's it all mean?
I want my own dream
So bad I'm gonna scream!

I don't know where to go
What's the right team?
I want my own thing
I want my own thing

I can't choose
So confused
What's it all mean?
I want my own dream
So bad I'm gonna scream!

Oh!
Aahhh!

High School Musical 3 was great...however High School Musical and High School Musical 2 was greater...! Only a few songs from High School Musical 3 was captivating and interesting which were rather disappointing...I guess I'll post my reflection which I handed up to Mr Ang here for all to view as it summarises the entire Beijing Exchange Programme...it's rather lengthy but nonetheless here it goes:

As the days passed, the tensions within me tightened and the countdown began. About a week before departure, preparations had been underway. All of us had been building up the PowerPoint presentation that was to be presented on the 24th of October. The next day, we were then busy with acquiring the skills of the National Day dance to be showcased after the presentation. Initially, the steps to the dance were tough to attain and there seemed to be some unhappiness amidst the erudition. However, it was a small misunderstanding and the dark clouds cleared. On Thursday, it was the promotion day and as well as my birthday. Nevertheless, all of us still came together to meet in the music room to practice one last time for next Friday’s performance. After which, the weekend was our final days left to pack our bags and gear up for the big day.

Finally, the countdown ceased and the big day arrived. After some final checks it was time to head down for the airport. We gathered at Changi Airport’s terminal 3 and checked-in our belongings. It was a midnight flight and we were departing as SQ800. We took group photos, Mr Tharmen and Ms Lim were there to send us off and we bid our parents/relatives good-bye. I guess at this point in time, many of us felt sad rather than excited. We went to the departure gate and the feeling of excitement aroused within me. After 2 years of wait, I got to sit on a plane again! As expected, the plane was delayed and we finally took to the skies.

We initiated our descend when dawn started to break. Bouncing above the clouds, the monumental display of orangey-red sunlight cracked in on the plane window panel is simply an inexpressible sight. We were back on solid ground at around 7am, retrieved our belongings and boarded the bus heading for Beijing 156 Middle School. The phrase best describes the weather: free air-conditioner. Despite the cool climate, sometimes it gets so cold that when we put on several layers of clothing, we look like Eskimos!

After entering the school compound, we toured the school I reckon many of us had nightmares consuming the breakfast there. After which, we participated in a handicraft class which we made 中国结. We then headed back to the 阅览室 for lunch. With some free rest time left to spare, most of us went outside and played basketball or if not sit on the stage chatting away. We had some physical exercise next, for which I played badminton with Daniel and Eric, followed which we attended an art lesson which was very captivating and interesting. We then met our counterpart families/buddies and nervousness seeped in. They were very formal and polite to a huge extent. That evening, I was stunned and surprised when they brought me to enjoy their country’s specialty: Beijing Roast Duck. Wow, I never thought that on the first night I would have such a thing!

Second day, after arriving in school we toured the classes and exhibition areas. I did not have any chance to take any photos as I forgot to bring the camera along with me. Then it was time to climb the Great Wall of China: Badaling. Well, I climbed another section of the Great Wall before was looking forward to this one. As usual, we would always sweat when we exercise but the cool weather forbid any sweat from occurring. We returned back to school earlier than scheduled. As many of our buddies had to stay back for extra lessons, we had a few ball games. Surprisingly, I had Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) for dinner. That day I think I had over-climbed steps.

Day 3, we each dissipated to our respective classes for sit-in lessons. There were: Language, Biology, Geography and Governance lessons. I chose Biology as science is important nowadays. They were learning about the animal cell and it was amazing how they could conduct an experiment with cheek cells in 40 minutes! I remember doing a similar experiment in secondary 1 or 2 before, as such it was a breather. After which, we took the public transport and headed for the Beijing Olympics Stadium (Bird’s Nest Stadium), Beijing National Indoor Stadium and Beijing National Aquatic Centre. We only managed to tour the inside of the Bird’s Nest Stadium and not the other two Olympic venues due to some reason. With some time remaining and that Tian An Men being closed the next day, we took the subway down and viewed it. Somehow we did not get to view the internal premises of the Tian An Men but we scanned the outside and headed for a KFC outlet where we rested our tired feet. I skipped the meal and watched others feast upon the fast food as I had eaten it the day before. After some fill and rest, we headed back to school via public transport by 4.10pm. As our buddies ended at 5.20pm, those involved stood together at the stage and Mr Ang joined us. As time flew, one by one we left and went home. Guess what, dinner that evening would be at Yoshinoya. I couldn’t believe it, it has had been 3 days and I have never tasted any home-cooked meal!

For day 4, we went to the Forbidden Kingdom by public transport and toured the palaces. It was quite crowded with tourists and locals. For lunch, we went to a restaurant near the school for which Beijing 156 Middle School hosted us. Well, I guess Mr Ang was not happy with me over the seating arrangement and I am apologetic about it. Anyway, the rain’s over and the sky’s blue again. We walked back to school and started preparations for that evening’s performance. I shall not go into detail as there are too many things to describe. Overall, it was great and I was satisfied with myself over the performance segment. We had a small briefing about Saturday’s outing and dinner was not surprising anymore to me – I still ate at Yoshinoya.

As for day 5, those buddies who had to attend extra lessons gathered, sat in with them and joined them for the first period which lasted 80 minutes. This was to have a sense of how their lessons were conducted. Jing Wen and I were in the same class as our buddies were in the same class and the first period was English. Unsurprisingly, their English standard that they were learning is comparable to the standard we learn at primary school, no offense whatsoever. I can understand as English is their second language, like Mother Tongue is our second language here. However, I reckon the teacher feared we were helping the students too much that she kindly invited us out, so we went to the stage and wait for Mr Ang or our friends to finish. Not long after, Mr Ang arrived and we headed for the 一楼会议室 away from the cold as he had the key to unopen. We waited for the others to stream in from their various classes and once everyone had gathered, we set out. We strolled along the streets near the school, aiding Eric in his search for an acoustic guitar.

Unwittingly, I remembered the day before in the bus going home that I had spotted a hobby shop selling airplane models and kept that at the back of my mind. Finally we strolled past it and I peered from outside but since everyone was ahead, I did not want to held them behind. A few shops down we crossed the road and went into Mcdonalds. Having ate at restaurants for the past evenings, I decided to give it a miss. Next door was a shopping centre which we entered and I window shopped. I think the girls benefited the most from the shopping centre as they had spent a long time dolling up their nails, leaving Eric and I no time to shop for our items. We had to return back to school by 3.30pm so we rushed back once they finished at about 3.35pm. At least we got back to school by 3.45pm and it was a good workout from the shopping centre to the school. Well, I tagged along with Eric and Mr Ang after meeting with our buddies and I guess Mr Ang was not too pleased with me. He wanted me to get my item (which was a model plane) myself and with my buddy. Anyway I have already said ‘sorry’ and I have also gotten the model plane which looks awesome.

My buddy and I headed home and for once, dinner that day was home-cooked food! So far, I have heard stories of how my friends have had to endure the torturous meals and I must count myself fortunate to eat out. Anyway, it was not so bad, or not as bad as what some of my friends have described it to be. There was pork ribs (it tasted delicious), some vegetables and soup. Some dishes were so tasty that the parents could open a shop and sell them! Well, that also happened to be the only time I met my buddy, 苏小智’s mother. Wonder why? I only found out on the third day that the house that I lived in all this time is their holiday-home and they stay at a smaller house nearer the school. This also explains why I have been eating out all this while. His mother lives in the house nearer to the school and only he and his father lived with me. That day, under my parents’ request, I finally took several pictures of him and his family before his mother went back.

The last day, day 6. I decided to sleep in today and woke up at 8am, compared to the usual 5.45am. In the morning, I gathered that it was the only time I have to get some products here for my tuition teachers back in Singapore. Since Saturday we strolled past and entered a tea store, I concluded to buy tea leaves for them. 小智 had quite a bit of homework to complete so I went out with his father to a grocery centre nearby to get tea leaves. The packaging of the tea leaves in the boxes and the paper bag itself had a design so creative and distinctive designed that lures one with ease to purchase.

As for lunch, there was no more home-cooked meal and since小智’s father was not feeling too well, he and I went out to a steamboat fast food restaurant. One of its kind. The initial plan was to dine at a dumpling restaurant near the school and then I was free to shop along the street like the day before, I can understand and I do not force it. I guess I misunderstood小智 and he ordered too much meat. Somehow, he and I managed to consume most of the food except for one plate left. After lunch, we headed home and I retired back into my room and did some final packing. About 3.30pm, his father drove him and me to the school. Unexpectedly, the traffic was rather heavy and so it took about 45 minutes to arrive at the destination. 小智 and I went to the school to place my luggage after bidding小智’s father good-bye and thanking him for the wonderful memorable stay.

We then waited outside the school for小智’s friend to join us and we headed for the hobby shop once again. I had decided to buy another model plane as these were so difficult to find in Singapore. In fact, I have not spotted one shop selling these kind of models in Singapore at all. It was a good thing that小智 brought his friend along as he was good at bargaining. After purchasing, we strolled back to the school to collect my belongings and then we walked towards 4 school. The time was 6pm and I was the earliest to arrive. The principal arrived at around 6.15pm and at around 6.23pm, 小智 and I bid each other good-bye. He left with his friend for dinner together.

At about 6.45pm, my friends started streaming in and each other waved good-bye to their buddies and their families. I guess Jia En and her buddy must have such a close relationship with each other that even she and her buddy were so touched that their tears fell from their eyes. So, we headed for the Beijing International Airport and checked-in. While checking-in, many of us realised that we had to spend our China currency here as we would not be able to use it in Singapore. Jing Wen, Lynette, Zavier and I went to Starbucks and got ourselves and Eric coffee and chocolate. Zavier and I went to Haagen Daaz to get ice-cream. Because of the currency, the prices here and Singapore had a huge difference. After finishing the edibles, we took the airport subway and went for our boarding gate.

I took many photos of the planes at the neighbouring gates as the plane at our gate had yet to arrive. They were so awesome in the night sky. I spotted a Singapore Airlines (SIA) plane that had just landed behind the plane that I was taking photos of and I knew that that had to be the plane we were sitting. After taking satisfied shots of the plane I was taking, the SIA plane taxied behind and I ran ahead of it, hoping to take a few shots of the plane entering the gate. The plane was just turning to the gate when I arrived and I managed to capture several beautiful shots of it coming to a halt.

Well, by now many of my friends would know my craze for planes. As the cabin crew was earlier than the plane’s arrival, they sat at the waiting gallery and as they were about to prepare for the flight, Daniel went up to them and requested for a shot. Hence, I would like to give special thanks to Daniel for capturing an unachievable shot of the captain and first officer on our flight. Departing as SQ801, the departure time of 0010, the plane pushed-back at 0006, took-off at 0016 and was in the sky by 0023.

This trip has hence allowed each and every one of us to bond with each other. Most of us had never knew each other before although we were from the same school and same level even. However through this trip, many of us understand and make friends with one another. I have also learnt some things about China’s education system which by ourselves is impossible to learn. Some of the system is so unheard of, it can only be learnt through the locals and students themselves.

Nevertheless, this trip has benefited me in many unforeseen and unimaginable ways.
